Class 44 A fastener includes a primary part adapted to be carried by one of two members 23 which are to be releasably secured together and a secondary part adapted to be carried by the other such member 19, the primary part comprising a retaining bar 21 carried by a backing plate 22 in spaced parallel relationship thereto and the secondary part comprising a hollow tongue adapted to pass between the retaining bar and backing plate of the primary part, a latch plate 16 constituting part of the front wall of the tongue and having a shoulder 24 for engagement with the retaining bar to prevent withdrawal of the tongue from between the latter and the backing plate such latch plate being displaceable towards the rear wall of the tongue from a locking position in which the shoulder 24 is positioned for engagement with the retaining bar, a locking member 12 within the tongue and rockable between locked and unlocked positions about an axis perpendicular to the rear wall of the tongue by means of a key engageable with the member through an aperture 16a in the latch plate, the locking member in its locked position holding the latch plate in its locking position, and a compression spring 15 between the latch piste and the rear wall of the tongue for resiliently urging the latch plate into its locking position. The secondary part comprises a rear plate 10 which constitutes the rear wall of the tongue and which has a forwardly extending post 11 which receives the key and on which the locking member 16 is pivotally mounted. The tongue is completed by a front plate 18 which is held to the rear plate by ears and this has an aperture 17 for receiving the latch plate 16. The shoulder at the upper edge of the latch plate 16 is joggled outwardly to engage behind the plate 18 and it also has a flange at its lower edge which engages behind the plate 18 to form a pivotal connection. The locking member has a tongue 12c for engagement by the ward of the key so that it may be rotated by the key and it has a peripheral projection 13 which can engage behind the shoulder 24 of the latch plate to hold the latch plate in its locking position. Movement of the locking member to its locking and unlocking positions is controlled by providing it with two notches 12a, 12b which can selectively engage a pressed up pip 25 in the plate 10; to prevent the locking member overrunning its locked position a further pressed up pip 26 is provided which is engaged by the projection 13.
