Abstract

803,757. Hydraulic locking of double-acting jacks. BRITISH MESSIER, Ltd. May 22, 1956 [May 24, 1955], No. 14990/55. Class 69 (2). A double-acting jack 10 is locked hydraulically if the pressure supply fails. Liquid from an accumulator 45 passes via a pipe 46 and a valvecontrolled chamber 23b to a distributing valve 16 and then via one of two passages 36, 37 to an isolating valve 33 and through one of two further passages 38, 39 to the jack. The valve 33 is loaded by a spring 29 which moves the valve 33 if the pressure fails, thereby closing a passage 23 from the pipe 46 and also closing the passages 38, 39 so that liquid on both sides of the piston 12 of the jack is trapped. A pump 47 connected to a reservoir 42 maintains the pressure in the accumulator via a cut-out valve 48. A non-return valve 50 is provided in the return line from the jack to the reservoir.
