Abstract
1,073,792. Double-acting liquid springs. DOWTY ROTOL Ltd. June 10, 1964 [June 11, 1963], No. 23272/63. Heading F2S. A double-acting liquid spring comprises a cylinder member 10, 11 having a plunger 19 slidable therein. The plunger when in a neutral position forms a part of two liquid-filled chambers 35, 36, one of which increases in volume and the other decreases in volume during movement of the plunger. During the movement the chamber of decreasing volume is connected by a valve means to a source of liquid pressure and the chamber of increasing volume to a low-pressure source. Two spring-loaded bearing bushes 27, 28 may be provided to form a partition in a chamber 12, the bushes being formed with holes 29. The holes 29 in bushes 28, 27 communicate with a non-return valve 52 of a pressurized liquid supply and a highpressure port 41, respectively. The valve means comprises annular grooves 37, 45 and passages 38, 50 in the plunger, the edges of the grooves being tapered as at 39 such that in the neutral position of the plunger the grooves partially co-operate with high-pressure ports 41, 46 and low-pressure ports 42, 47.
