Abstract

803,144. Hoppers. MUCON ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., DOUGLASS, W., and BURGOYNE, R. A. Jan. 14, 1957 [Jan. 12, 1956], No. 1093/56. Class 78(1). [Also in Group XXIX] A valve suitable for controlling the flow of material from a hopper 20 to a container 21 and, as described in Specification 535,489, comprising a flexible sleeve 5 of cotton fabric, nylon or rubber folded back on itself and secured to a pair of relatively rotatable, coaxial rings 1, 3 which upon relative rotation are capable of twisting the sleeve from a loose or free condition in which the valve is open to a closed, substantially diaphragm form is provided with an open-ended tubular liner to extend through the sleeve to protect the latter from deleterious effects of the controlled material. As shown, the liner 24 is of flexible material and adapted to be throttled by closing movement of the sleeve 5, whilst in modifications (see Group XXIX) it is rigid and arranged to be withdrawn from the sleeve before the latter is closed.
