Abstract

798,420. Holders for sliding roofs. BAIER O., BAIER, S., BAIER, L., BAIER, W., BAIER, W., and SCHLUMPRECHER. E, [trading as BAIER KOMM-GES WEBASTO-WERK, W.]. Class 44 Relates to sliding roofs for vehicles in which the roof is locked in a desired position by two members which can be forced outwardly against the frame of the vehicle, and consists in providing an actuating handle adapted to lie in a recess in the front bar containing the two members. As shown in Fig. 2, the handle 24 is pulled downwards so that projection 25 enters a notch 26 and on rotation of the handle the projection rides on plate 19 and thus prevents the handle springing back to its retracted position under action of spring 21. Rotation of handle 24 rotates plate 8 to which rods 10, Figs. 1, 2 are pivoted so that rods 10 move inwards; each rod 10 carries a polyamide sleeve 29 moving in a slot in arm 30 so that when the sleeve reaches the end of the slot it withdraws arm 31 from a tube 32 compressing spring 33 and allowing a spring on tube 32 to expand to withdraw brake blocks 40 from the side frames 42 and release the roof for sliding. When handle 24 is reversely rotated, the rods 10 move outwardly and cause brake blocks 40 to engage the sides 42 and hold the sliding roof firmly in position. A member 11 is also rotated by handle 24 to engage a member on the front part of the frame. In a modification, the handle 58, Fig. 4 is pulled downwards against the action of spring 64<SP>1</SP> and on rotation a lip 59 engages under the rim 61, a polyamide pin 62 obviating wear. Rotation of the handle then rotates bridging member 56 to rotate the locking plate 55 carrying the push rods and front locking member. A rubber buffer 64, on the front bar engages a bore 63 on the handle to eliminate noise.
