Abstract

1278129 Latches WALSALL LOCKS & CART GEAR Ltd 4 Aug 1970 [30 Aug 1969] 43257/69 Heading E2A A catch comprises a pivoted jaw plate 17 engageable with a pin 41 the jaw plate pivoting from a dead locked position where it is retained by a sliding spring urged bolt 23 to either of two positions one on each side of the dead locked position where the pin can disengage the jaw plate. One limb 15 of a bracket 10 supports a housing of the bolt 23 which is urged by two interior springs 31 to project between the limb 15 and a linear edge portion of a cam plate 20 on the pivot shaft of the jaw plate 17 and so retain the jaw plate in pin engaging position when the bolt 23 is withdrawn and the structure to which the pin is attached is pivoted the jaw plate is rotated, and thereby releasing the pin, until the bolt nose 26 engages in one of two concave recesses 36 in the cam plate and an edge portion 38 thereof seats on the limb 15 holding the cam plate in releasing position. The pin 41 which is secured to an attachment plate 40 has a deformable nylon sleeve 42. The catch may be used to secure a vehicle back rest in an upright position or in a horizontal position on either side of the upright position.
