Class 86 [Also in Groups VI, XIII and XXX] A mixing machine comprising a heat exchanger in which cooling or heating medium passes through overlapping hollow screw-flights 15, 16 on rotatable shafts 12 which are also hollow for the flow of fluid, as described in the parent Specification, is modified in that the pitch 24 of each flight 15, 16 (or the average pitch of adjacent parts of the flight) is four to eight times the distance 25 between the leading plate 15 and the trailing plate 16 of the flight at the shaft. The pitch may be greater than half the diameter of the flight.
