Abstract

795,664. Burners. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO., Ltd., and WILLIAMS, C. A. H. Aug. 31, 1955 [Sept. 14, 1954], No. 26631/54. Class 75(1) The invention consists in a wind deflector for use on flare stacks and a flare stack burner unit, the wind deflector comprising a plurality of vertical spaced slats 4 adapted to be set about a burner head 3 and spaced therefrom, the upper ends of the slats being tapered and curved towards the burner head, the flare stack burner unit comprising a burner head 3 having attached thereto a wind deflector comprising a plurality of vertical spaced slats 4 set about the burner head and spaced therefrom, each slat having a face parallel to the outer wall of the burner; head. The upper ends of the slats lie at or below the level of the top of the burner head. The length of each slat is not less than 3.5 times the distance between opposite slats. The flare stack burner unit comprises a cylindrical head pipe 3 welded to a frusto-conical section 2 welded to a flare pipe 1 of greater diameter than the -head pipe 3. The lower ends of the slats are bolted to the flare pipe 1 and the upper parts of the slats are secured by distance pieces 8 to clamp rings 6, 7 on the head pipe 3.
