Abstract

1,213,848. Flare stack burners. JOHN ZINK CO. 13 May, 1968 [20 Sept., 1967], No. 22644/68. Heading F4T. A flare stack burner 10 comprises a vertical tubular member 11 for guiding flared gas upwardly therein, a tip structure at the upper end of the tubular member 11 having a central opening 14 for the upward escape of gas, a plurality of conduits 33 each having a vertically disposed portion within the tubular member 11 and an open upper end 38 adjacent to the tip structure, and on aspirating unit 31 outside the tubular member 11 connected to each conduit 33 to supply a mixture of air and aspirating medium to the conduit 33. As shown, one of the conduits 33 is positioned coaxially with the tubular member 11 and has a circular open upper end 38 and the other conduits 33 are circumferentially spaced around the central conduit 33 and have open upper ends 38 elongated radially of the tubular member 11, Fig. 2 (not shown). The tip structure comprises an annular wall 21 around its periphery which extends higher than any other part of the burner 10 and is formed by a flange 17 merging with a web 16 having discharge ports 22, 23, 24 opening below the tip structure. Each aspirating unit 31 is connected to a source of aspirating medium e.g. methane, hydrogen, air or steam and the arrangement is such that the mixture of air and aspirating medium issues from the ends 38 of the conduits 33 at velocities greater than that of the upwardly moving flared gas.
