Abstract

795,640. Shaft couplings. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Sept. 11, 1956 [Sept. 30, 1955], No. 27783/56. Class 80 (2). A shaft coupling in which at least one centrifugally responsive weight 16 is pivotally connected to one of the shaft members 14 and connected to the other shaft member by a link 18, has the link pivot 19 on the other member disposed between the pivot 17 of the weight and the pivot 21 between the weight and the link. The shafts 10, 11 each carry flanges 14, 15 (not shown), the flange 14 carrying two pairs of weights 16 on pins 17 and the flange 15 (not shown) having two pivots 19 for the two links 18. The pairs of weights 16 are spaced by distance-pieces 22 secured by rivets 23, these distance-pieces having secured thereto blade springs 24 which bear on cam-shaped ends of the links 18. The positioning of the three pivots and the length of the link is such that a substantially linear speed/displacement relationship is obtained; this may be varied by the design of the spring and/or the cam end of the link.
