Abstract
Hydrocarbons are desulphurized by autofining using a catalyst consisting essentially of the oxides of cobalt and molybdenum supported on a silica/alumina base. The catalyst may contain 1-40 per cent of silica. The oxides of cobalt and molybdenum may be present as such, or in combined form, or both. The hydrocarbons may be petroleum hydrocarbons. In the example, gas oil is autofined at 780 DEG F., equilibrium pressure, a space velocity of 2 v./v./hr. and a recycle gas rate of 2000 SCF/B.
