Abstract

793,089. Rotary pumps and engines. HANOMAG AKT.-GES. June 9, 1956, No. 17894/56. Class 110 (2). A pump, compressor or engine of the n and n+1 lobe type is provided with movable teeth or crests 17 on one or both gears, the teeth being held radially outwards by springs or fluid under pressure. Figs. 1, 2 show inner and outer rotors 2, 20 with inlet and outlet ports 4, 14, the fluid being controlled by a rotatable valve 6, having an external handle 7. Fluid flow from a chamber 5 through ports 3, 8, 9 into expanding chambers 10 and is delivered through passages 12, 13 to ports 14. The rotor 2 is fixed to a shaft 1 having bearings 18, 19 and the outer rotor 20 is supported in bearings 23, 24. A collar 25 limits the outward radial movement of each tooth, and ball-controlled valves 26, and ducts 27, 28 control the flow of pressure fluid to the underside of each tooth. The eccentricity e between the axes of the rotors is smaller than the depth h of a tooth on the outer gear. Figs. 5, 6 show another construction in which the outer gear 20, 21, 32 is driven by the shaft 1 through gearing 34, 33. In a further modification, Figs. 6, 7 (not shown), the undersides of the teeth are in communication with part-annular channels 45, 44, which respectively lead to regions of low and high pressures. The invention may be applied to internal-combustion engines.
