791,074. Treating fabric edges; seaming fabrics. JUTE INDUSTRIES, Ltd., and PLENDERLEATH, J. S. March 3, 1954 [Dec. 3, 1952], No. 30626/52. Class 42 (1). [Also in Group IX] Two strips of non-thermoplastic woven fabric united at adjacent overlapping edges have thermoplastic bonding material in thread or strip form woven into their overlapped edges instead of non-thermoplastic warp threads, the bonding material bonding the edges together. As shown, a number of threads or a tape of synthetic resin or other thermoplastic bonding material from a roll 1 are woven into the edge of a fabric in place of a number of the normal warps. The edge then passes between heated pressure rollers 6, 7 to fuse the bonding material and form a fringe of weft loops with plastic binding; rollers 6, 7 may be grooved to effect crimping of the fringe and ultrasonic vibrations may be used. A cutting device 8 removes the looped ends of the wefts. Two strips of fabric with plastic-bound fringes are seamed together by passing them, with fringes overlapping, between heated bonding rollers or between calender rollers.
