Abstract

790,151. Brushes. COLE, Ltd., E..K, and GLANVILL, A. B. Nov. 5, 1956 [Nov. 5, 1955], No. 31699/55. Class 19. Thermoplastics monofilaments are fed as tufts into a mould cavity and the ends of each tuft in the cavity are fused together before a handle is moulded about them. Continuous strands of monofilaments 8 are intermittently advanced a predetermined amount by rollers 9 through aligned holes in a plate 10, a collet plate 6 and collets 11 in a part 4 of spaced mould parts 4, 5. After advance of the strands the collet plate 6 advances towards the collets to close them and a heating element 14 is entered between the parts 4, 5 to fuse the ends of the strands together and is then withdrawn to allow the parts 4, 5 to be assembled together and the handle moulded about the fused tuft ends. An hydraulically actuated blade 12 severs the strands and the brush is extracted from the mould when the collet plate 6 is withdrawn and the parts 4, 5 moved apart.
