Abstract
789,668. Magnetic storage devices. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Sept. 28, 1954 [Oct. 1, 1953], No. 27958/54. Class 38 (2). [Also in Group XXXIX] For non-destructive reading a sensing winding 13 is linked with only a part of the magnetic storage core. In Fig. 2 the winding 13 is passed through two holes 14 in the core. A pulse in the winding 13 produces an auxiliary flux which disturbs the main flux and produces a voltage pulse in the output winding 12. The sign of the output pulse is independent of the sign of the sensing pulse but depends upon the direction of the main flux in the core. The sensing winding may be fed with alternating current the state of the core being indicated by the phase of the output. If the alternating current is of sawtooth waveform a substantial voltage is produced in only one direction which is dependent upon the direction of the main flux in the core. If the holes are arranged so that winding 13 is not linked with the main flux in the core, pulses in the input winding 11 will not affect the sensing winding 13. In a modification, Fig. 3, the sensing winding 23 is linked with part of the core between a hole 24 and the outer periphery of the core. Specification 749,796, [Group XXXIX], is referred to.
