Abstract
788,760. Batteries. CHLORIDE ELECTRICAL STORAGE CO., Ltd. Sept. 12, 1956 [Oct. 4, 1955], No. 28203/55. Class 53. A pressure relieving device for a dry charged lead-acid battery comprises a cha.mber a vented to atmosphere by a tube b and a chamber f connected to the battery interior by a tube c, the chambers a, f being interconnected by a hole e and containing liquid which covers the hole e but which is insufficient to obstruct the ends of the tubes b, c. The liquid may be water, mercury, glycerine, ethylene glycol or a silicone fluid. According to the Provisional Specification, an inverted U-shaped siphon tube may connect the two chambers instead of the hole e or the two chambers may be entirely separate, each contain liquid and each have an outlet to atmosphere.
