635,642. Batteries. BATTERY CONSTRUCTION, Ltd., and ACREMAN, H. F. Nov. 22, 1947, No. 30993. [Class 53] The plates of an accumulator are separated from one another and from the sides of the container by sheets of absorbent material such as soft wood, glass wool, hard rubber, or porous ebonite. The cover of the cell is provided with a gas vent and acid trap consisting as shown in Fig. 3 of two triangular chambers 21, 23 extending across the width of the cell and enclosing absorbent material between them. The chambers have holes 22, 24 at their lower ends and a tube 25 leads to a chamber 26 filled with absorbent material and having an opening 27 leading to the atmosphere. The lower end of the gas exit is shielded from direct access by the electrolyte by a splash-plate 19, Fig. 1, which engages under the lugs 17 and rests on a bar 20 supported by the plates.
