Abstract
788,509. Vehicle jacks. BOUET, B. M. E. Sept. 29, 1954 [Sept. 29, 1953], No. 28087/54. Classes 79(2) and 79(3) In vehicle manoeuvring means comprising roller devices having supports 6 securable to the vehicle adjacent the driving wheels 12 with the axles 10 of the devices at right angles to the wheel axles and the devices having expanding linkages 5 for lifting and lowering movements, each roller axle 10 is gear connected to a gear wheel 16 meshing with an internally toothed gear 18 adapted to be secured to the adjacent driving wheel 12. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 2 and 3, each support is secured to a rear wheel suspension spring 13 and the linkage 5 is operated by a threaded rod 7. In operation the rod 7 is rotated to lower rollers 11 into ground contact and raise the wheel 12, the wheel 12 driving the rollers 11 to manoeuvre the vehicle by slewing it about the centre of the front axle. In another embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the rollers and the gearing for transmitting the drive thereto from the vehicle driving wheel is carried by a pivoted arm which is moved through a cable and in its operative vertical position the arm engages a stop. In a further embodiment, Fig. 9 (not shown), the toggle linkage shown in Fig. 3 is arranged in a transverse plane instead of a longitudinal plane of the vehicle.
