Abstract
A refractory article which may be fired at a temperature as low as 1400 DEG C. consists of 80 per cent to 97 per cent by weight of alumina grain of particle size 1 to 15m in 20 per cent to 3 per cent of a ceramic bond whose constituent proportions are approximately 27 per cent calcium oxide, 6 per cent magnesium oxide, 13,5 per cent aluminium oxide, 53,5 per cent silica. The bond is made by melting a mixture of the components or by mixing other ceramic materials, e.g. talc, whiting, plastic clay and wollastonite, to achieve the same analysis.
