Abstract
The invention comprises 7-acetyl-1,1,4,6-tetramethyl - 4 - ethyl - 1,2,3,4 - tetrahydronaphthalene and its preparation by reacting toluene with methallyl acetone in presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst to form 5-methyl-5-p-tolyl-2-hexanone, reacting this with ethyl magnesium bromide to form 3,6-dimethyl-6-p-tolyl-3-heptanol, cyclizing the latter in presence of an acidic type of catalyst such as HF, H2SO4, H3PO4, BF3, P2O5, AlCl3, FeCl3, SbCl5, ZnCl2 or TiCl3 to form 1,1,4,6-tetramethyl-4-ethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene and acetylating the latter. An example is given.ALSO:Soaps contain the musk-like compound 7-acetyl - 1,1,4,6 - tetramethyl - 4 - ethyl - 1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene.
