Abstract
The invention comprises 15,151-dehydrozeaxanthin dimethyl ether and a process for making it by condensing an acetylene di(magnesium halide) with 8-[2,6,6-trimethyl-4-methoxy cyclohexen-(1)-yl]-2, 6-dimethyloctatrien-(2,4,6)-al-(1), hydrolysing the resulting metal compound and dehydrating; if desired, the product may be partially hydrogenated to 15,151-zeaxanthin dimethyl ether. Specification 976,835 is referred to.
