786,621. Luffing cranes. KAMPNAGEL AKT.-GES. VORM. NAGEL & KAEMP. March 27, 1956 [March 30, 1955], No. 9565/56. Addition to 738,410. Class 78 (4). The invention of the parent Specification is modified in that the rotatable column of the crane is hollow, constituting a bell rotatably mounted on a fixed column. As shown, the crane comprises a fixed column 2, a rectangularsection bell 3 rotatable on a thrust bearing 5 and a roller bearing 7, 8 on said column and carrying a framework 4 enclosing the hoisting and luffing mechanism, and a jib 24 pivotally mounted on the framework 4 at 30. The slewing mechanism 13, 14, 15 is mounted at the foot of the bell. A carriage 17 carrying a jib counterweight 20 moves on rails 16 on the bell 3 and is connected by a pair of links 22 to the tail end of the jib, the link pivots 21 being vertically below the jib pivots 30. The hoisting cable drum 33 is mounted coaxially with the jib, and a drum 51 carries a cable which passes round a pulley 53 at the base of the bell, then round a pulley 26 on the carriage 17 and round further pulleys 54, 27, its end being fixed at 56. When the jib is luffed the motion of the carriage 17 causes rotation of the drum 51, this rotation being transferred to the hoisting drum by a differential gear in order to keep the load on a level path.
