Abstract

<PICT:0785498/III/1> A spray booth of the kind from which ventilation air is exhausted and which to retain or remove excess paint is provided with overflow devices, nozzles or the like has means for the conveyance by the exhausted air of water in drops from the bottom of the booth to retainers in an exhaust duct above the overflow devices or nozzles from which retainers the water flows by gravity to the overflow devices or nozzles. As shown in Fig. 1, a spray booth 1 has a spraying table 13 mounted over a chamber 2, containing water to the level of a slot 21 in a duct 17 which extends to an upper chamber 15 and communicates therewith. The chamber 15 communicates with an exhaust fan. When the fan is operated air is drawn through an opening 11 at the front of the booth over a screen 22 covering the open end of the duct and into the duct carrying drops of water to the chamber 15 where any not settling in the chamber are caught by a baffle 26 and deposited in the chamber. The water flows down a passage 30 to overflow from a trough 32 down a plate 14, carrying particles of paint to be deposited at the bottom of the booth. Lateral gutters may be secured to the trough 32 to wet the front parts of side walls or the chambers 15 and 16 may extend over the whole of the top of the chamber. The duct may be straight with apertures at the lower end. For use with nozzles, the troughs are supported above the booth to increase the pressure.
