Abstract
Thermoplastic, impact-resistant articles are made from vinyl halide resin blended with a minor amount of chlorosulphonated polyethylene, particularly from 8 to 16 parts per 100 parts of resin. Polyvinyl chloride and copolymers of vinyl chloride with vinylidene chloride, diethyl and dibutyl maleates, vinyl acetate and diethyl acrylate may be blended with the chlorosulphonated polyethylene on roll mills or internal mixers at a controlled temperature. In an example the resin is fluxed with a heat stabilizer, e.g. tin mercaptide, at from 300 DEG to 375 DEG F. on a roll mill, the elastomer added and homogeneously mixed, and fillers, plasticizers, vulcanization agents, colouring agents, and lubricants, e.g. stearic acid, added and admixed. The composition may be used to form sheets, pipes, football helmets, shoulder pads, golf club heads, trays, bobbins, electrical terminal blocks, radio cabinets, luggage and phonograph records.
