Abstract

782,138. Cathode material and processing. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. June 16, 1955 [June 16, 1954], No. 17468/55. Class 39(1). In manufacturing a cathode, a container 1 is filled with an emissive mixture 2 which is compressed, and then covered with a layer 4 of metallic powder of thickness only a fraction of the mixture 2, the whole being again compressed and sintered. A suitable mixture is barium tungstate+aluminium -'- tungsten in specified proportions. The final layer 4 is of tungsten powder, whose porosity can be controlled by the pressure applied. Times, temperatures, and grain sizes are specified. The cathode may then be cut along the line 5-5, and the surface planed and polished.
