Abstract

782,098. Reservoir pens. MABIE, TODD &.CO., Ltd. May 18, 1955 [Feb. 18, 1954], No. 4850/54. Class 146(3) A reservoir pen of the kind wherein endwise pressure applied by actuating mech-, anism to a leaf spring is adapted to cause a pressure to deflate a resilient sac, is characterized by the provision of connecting means between the actuating mechanism and barrel, such that on turning the barrel end in one direction the closing movement of the presser bar reaches a predetermined limit and is maintained but not increased on continued turning of the barrel end in the same direction, the presser bar being released for return to the inoperative position by a turning movement of the barrel end in the reverse direction. A collapsible sac 4, Fig. 2, is de-' flated by a presser bar 2 secured to a spring 3 given an endwise movement by a plunger 10 having a non-circular part 9 engaging a correspondingly shaped part in the barrel 1. The plunger 10 is moved axially of the barrel 1 by rotation of a knob 5 carrying a screw-threaded rod 25. The rod 25 has a reduced part 27 which holds the plunger 10 depressed when sufficient movement has been imparted to the spring 3, but permits further rotation of the knob 5 without effecting further movement of the springs. Rotation of the knob 5 in the opposite direction moves the spring 3 in the opposite direction to permit inflation of the sac 4. The knob 5 is retained against axial movement by a locking nut 26, on the rod 25, engaging a shoulder 15 on the barrel 1. In a modification, described with reference to Fig. 1 of the Provisional Specification, a knob 5 is screwed to a bush 14 which receives a screwed plunger 10 prevented from rotating by a hexagonal or non-round part 9 engaging a correspondingly shaped part 7. The bush 14 is prevented from moving rearwardly by a shoulder 15. Rotation of the knob 5 in the appropriate direction moves the plunger 10 axially towards the nib end to flex a spring 3 attached to a presser bar 2 engaging a sac 4. When the sac 4 has been deflated by actuation of the knob, further rotation of the knob 5 is ineffective, since the plunger 10 has a non- threaded reduced end 13. A clicking sound, produced by rotation of the knob upon disengagement of the threads, indicates that the sac 4 is deflated. Specification 782,099 is referred to.
