Abstract

953,525. Crushing fibre-reinforced rubber &c. METALLGESELLSCHAFT A.G., and S. FICKER, [trading as STEFAN FICKER INGENIEUR-BURO]. Jan. 24, 1963 [Feb. 15, 1962 ; Oct. 27, 1962], No. 3105/63. Heading B2A. In the regeneration of fibre-reinforced scrap rubber or synthetic resin, the material is broken up in a roller crusher 1, Fig. 1, used either with or without a sieve 1a and recirculating means 1b so as to produce crushed material having a maximum grain size of 4 mm. which is passed to mechanical separators, such as a vibratory sieve 3 and a plan sifter 5, arranged to separate out at 3a and 5a the practically fibre-free rubber or synthetic resin for regenerating and feed the remaining material, which contains practically all the fibrous material, to an electrostatic separator 9 having outlets 10, 11 for the respective materials. The rollers A, B, Fig. 3, of the crusher are fluted as shown and driven at different speeds, the flutes preferably being twisted. The material entering the electrostatic separator 9 may be pre-treated by applying water spray, water vapour or, as shown in Fig. 1, moist air in a Venturi fluidizer 7 in connection with a cyclone 8. The middle product of the electrostatic separator can be recirculated by a device 12 or, if desired, returned to the fluidizer.
