Class 23 [Also in Group XXXV] In a centrifuging machine having a shell member B, Fig. 1, driven from a motor M and a conveyer member 1 driven at a slightly faster speed, the shafts 1, 2, Fig. -3, of the shell and conveyer respectively are connected through differential gearing comprising intermeshing stepped planets 12 15 and 16, 19 carried by the main driving pulley PM and gearing with a sun gear 20 on shaft and a sun gear 11 on a hollow shaft 9 of a control pulley PC. The gearing provides a reversed drive of the shafts 2 and 9 relatively to the pulley PM so that the shaft 9 and pulley PC normally rotate at a speed below that of the pulley PM. The pulley PC is arranged to drive a generator D so that as resistance to the differential speed of the conveyer and shell increases as a result of increased loading the pulley PC and generator D are speeded up to increase the generator output. This current from the generator can be fed back to the motor M but on reaching a value corresponding to overload conditions in the gearing it is adapted to operate a current overload trip device so that the load on pulley PC is relieved and the conveyer and shell rotate together at the same speed.
