Abstract

775,730. Pulverized fuel burners. FOSTER WHEELER, Ltd. July 6, 1955 [July 29, 1954], No. 19542/55. Class 75(1) A pulverized fuel burner nozzle with a tubular body 11, e.g. of frusto-conical form,' designed to receive an air-carried stream of pulverized fuel rotating about its axis extending in the direction of flow, as from a volute chamber 16 fed tangentially from a supply pipe 17, has a plurality of circumferentially-spaced axially extending vanes or bars 30 projecting from the wall of the body in such positions as to disperse or break up the spiral rope of pulverized fuel that would otherwise form in the rotating stream and to distribute it substantially uniformly round the axis of the nozzle. A sleeve 27 extending axially within the body 11 and chamber 16 prevents the recirculation of pulverized material in the nozzle. An inner tube 29 provides means for lighting the burners. The opposite ends of the bars 30 are preferably spaced short from the inlet 12 and outlet 13 of the body 11. The outlet 13 communicates with a windbox 20 of an air supply means 21 which provides combustion supporting air to the burner controlled by dampers 23. The means 21 is attached to a furnace. wall 22 adjacent a burner opening 24 in the wall.
