Abstract
775,084. Cable terminations and joints. PIRELLI SOC. PER. AZIONI. Nov. 16, 1955 [Dec. 4, 1954], No. 32768/55. Addition to 752,376. Classes 36 and 38 (1). In the joint or terminal for high-tension cables disclosed in the parent Specification the insulating material 3 embedding the metal socket 1 is of double conical external contour, tapering towards the extremities of the socket. A multi-core stop joint (Fig. 2) comprises a twopart casing 4, the flanges 5 of which abut a metal plate 6 having apertures 8 for the reception of the insulated sockets 1, each aperture having a flange 9 with an internal conical surface corresponding to the outer surface of the insulation 3. Flanged rings 10 secure, the insulated sockets in the apertures. Each socket 1 is joined to its respective conductors 12 by a ferrule 13 and the spaces between the core insulation 14 and the socket insulation 3 are filled with insulation 15 enclosed in a metal screen 16. In a single core stop joint (Fig. 5) the flanges 5 abut, inwardly directed flanges 17 co-operating with the external surface of the insulation 3. An oil channel 19 in each cable core communicates with the interior of the casing 4 through an axial duct 20 and radial outlet 21 in the socket 1 and through channels or a narrow annular space 22 in the socket insulation, which may be formed in three sections 23, 24 for this purpose. In a single core cable feeding joint the socket 1 is hollow throughout and the casing 4 may be made in one piece, the flanges 17 being omitted. In a terminal (Fig. 6) the conductor 12 is joined to socket 1, the upper part of which is surrounded by hand-applied insulation 25 and enclosed in a porcelain insulator 26. Oil may be admitted to the insulator through duct 27. Specification 775,083 also is referred to.
