Abstract

772,747. Knittieg-machines. MONK (SUTTON-IN-ASHFIELD), Ltd., S. A. July 21, 1955 [Sept. 16, 1954], No. 26824/54. Class 74(2). In a straight-bar machine wherein the thread carrier bar is driven by a flexible member such as a chain, the tie-bar is driven from a reciprocating rack, and the flexible member is driven either from said rack or from another rack mounted on the tie-bar. Means are provided for adjusting the position of a driver on the flexible member relatively to the tiebar to maintain the required lead of the thread carrier bar relatively to the tie-bar. In one form, Fig. 2, the rack 50 which serves to drive the tie-bar also serves, through gearing 47, 48, to drive the flexible member and is reciprocated by the draw lever 22. The lever 22 is driven by levers 24, the levers 22, 24 being connected together by pins 27 mounted upon a collar 26 slidable within a slot in the lever 22, the pins 27 engaging in block 28 mounted upon the levers 24. The collar 26 is mounted upon a screwed spindle 31 rotatable by gearing 35 to vary the travel of the rack 50. To permit the driver on the flexible member to be adjusted with respect to the tie-bar, the flexible member passes around two sets of three pulleys, the central pulley of each set being adjustable to take up part of the length of the flexible member. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the tie-bar is driven by a rack 71 moved by the draw lever, and the flexible member 16 is connected at its ends to a second rack 70 driven from the rack 71. Means are provided for varying the stroke of the rack 71, and to obtain the required lead of the carrier bar over the tie-bar, the wheel 72 connecting the racks 71, 70 can be moved laterally with respect to them under cam control. To allow the slur cocks to be withdrawn to inoperative position when required the tie-bar, upon which the slur cocks are mounted, is slidably mounted on a rail carried by arms secured to a shaft which can be rotated under pattern control.
