The present invention relates to fiat full-fashioned knitting machines in which the stroke of the slur cock changes in accordance with alterations in the width of the fabric and more particularly refers to a device for maintaining a uniform advance of the thread guide or thread carrier with regard to the slur cock.

Various constructions of devices for maintaining a uniform advance of the thread carrier with regard to the slur cock are already known, but all these constructions may be employed only in connection with flat full-fashioned knitting machines, the stroke of the slur cock of which cannot be varied. V

With the fiat full-fashioned knitting machines hitherto known in which the stroke of the slur cock changes in accordance with alterations in the width of the fabric, however, a uniform reduction in the stroke of the slur cock according to the narrowings of the fabric and, therefore, a regular, uniform advance of the thread guide or thread carrier with regard to the slur cock cannot be maintained which is a particular disadvantage when effecting platings.

Knitting machines in which the stroke of the slur cock thereof is variable may substantially be divided into two kinds. Whereas with the first k'nd of such machines the oscillations due to the draw cam are, by means of a. sliding block altered relative to the member having a guideway, the reverse manner of operation is proposed in connection with-other kinds of machines to which the block is held in position, whereas the member provided with the guideway is displaced.

According to'the present invention a practical, absolute sufiiciently uniform advance of the thread carrier with regard to the slur cock is maintained in connection with flat full-fashioned knitting machines having variable strokes of the slur cock by transmitting the feeding movements from the narrowing tackle upon the slur bar by means of a spindle which has an increasing pitch instead of being provided with a uniform pitch as hitherto.

In the accompanying drawing one embodiment of the invention is shown by way of example in connection with ,a machine of the first mentioned modification having a movable slidin block and a stationary guideway.

the draw arm 2. A spindle 6 the thread of which 10 has an increasing pitch is mounted in between said guideway and is driven through bevel wheels 8 and 9 by the control shaft 1 connected to the narrowing tackle. This spindle '6 serves for shifting the sliding block'4 through which a bolt 4a 5 is mounted. One end of this bolt 4a carries a projection 4b adapted to engage the thread of the spindle 6, as may be seen from'Fig. 3. A bar In is connected .to the sliding block 4 and this bar III in a well known manner transmits upon 5 the draw arm 2 the reciprocating movements of the bar as caused by the sinker cam, not shown in the drawing. The operation of the device described is as follows: 1; If the position of the stops limiting the stroke of the thread carrier is altered by the narrowing tackle, a corresponding movement of the spindle 6 is caused by way of the control shaft 1 and the bevel .wheels 8- and 9. Consequently, I the block 4 slidably arranged in the guideway 3 is correspondingly shifted so that the point of engagement of the bar H), which receives its swinging movement from the sinker bar, is altered so that there is a different throw of the arm 2 as well as a corresponding alteration of the stroke of the slur bar 5 connected to the arm 2. By the spindle 6 having an increasing pitch which corresponds to the lever ratio of the particular apparatus, a uniform alteration of the 40 stroke of the slur bar 5 is obtained.

If a normal spindle having a uniform pitch, such as shown in Fig. 1, would be used, uniform shiftings of the sliding block would be obtained, but non-uniform alterations of the stroke of the slur bar and consequently altering'advances of the thread carrier with regard to the slur cock would result.

Fig. 1 shows the non-uniform alteration of the 0 stroke 'end, therefore, an altering advance between the thread carrier and the slur cock caused by a uniform shifting of the sliding block.

Fig. 2 shows that due to the non-uniform shifting of the sliding block according to the invention the stroke is uniformly altered thereby maintaining. a uniform advance of the thread carrier with regard to the slur cock.

By the spindle being provided with an increasing pitch the displacement of the sliding block upon the spindle iseffected in an always increasing measure as indicated by the cross lines marked upon the vertical line AA. The amplitude of the draw arm 2 resulting therefrom is indicated in accordance with the various lever ratios possible are to be chosen.

What I claim is:

V A device for maintaining a uniform advance of the thread carrier with regard to the slur cock in flat full-fashioned knitting machines operating with variable strokes of the slur cock. comprising a slur bar pivoted to a draw arm, aspiridle' having an increasing pitch mounted in ,a guideway provided in said draw arm, a sliding block shiftably arranged on said spindle, a bar pivoted to said sliding lgloclg and connected to the draw cam 01' the flat full-fashioned knitting machine, and a shaft transmitting the movements of the narrowing tackle upon said spindle.
