Abstract

770,775. Valves. MATHESON, N. Oct. 5, 1955 [July 26, 1954], No. 21716/54. Class 135. A gate valve comprises a plate a slidable in a body c and having a hole b of the same size as the bore of the pipe in which the valve is fitted and a blank portion to close the passage through the valve, a fluid-tight joint being maintained between the body and the plate by a flexible steel ring e to which is bonded a rubber ring f exposed to pressure fluid supplied through a pipe g. The plate may be operated by a piston in a hydraulic cylinder d or, alternatively, electrically by means of a solenoid, or by hand. The plate may be sealed by two flexible rings disposed on opposite sides thereof and the pressure fluid may be supplied by a grease gun arranged to be automatically operated with the opening and closing of the valve.
