Abstract

1386109 Valves VETCO OFFSHORE INDUSTRIES Inc 7 Aug 1972 [1 Nov 1971] 35137/74 Divided out of 1386108 Heading F2V [Also in Division El] In a safety valve apparatus for installation at the mudline in an offshore well and comprising a body 190 having production flow passages 62a, 68a, 74a, each passage has a gate 194 moved to close the passage by control pressure applied above the water surface. The gate closing the passage 68a is shown, the gate being moved to the open position in which an aperture 195 in the gate is aligned with the passage by applying control pressure to a cylinder 199 to move a piston 200 connected to the gate. Hydraulic fluid in the space behind the piston is forced through a duct 213 to a cylinder 208 to move a piston 214 to compress a spring 218. On release of the control pressure the spring forces the fluid through the duct to open the gate. The spring force may be supplemented by pressure fluid supplied by a duct 220, and the gate may be closed by fluid from a duct 228 urging a piston 225 which may be connected to the gate.
