Abstract

A porous ceramic body is produced by heating loam or clay e.g kaolin, admixed with a combustible material comprising a finely divided mixture of charcoal and a combustible fibrous substance such as sawdust, comminuted wood shavings, or pulverized peat, the combustible material being burnt out to form pores in the loam or clay. Preferably the combustible material comprises 20 to 80 per cent by weight of charcoal.
