767,711. Motor vehicles. FERGUSON, Inc., H. May 5, 1952 [May 8, 1951], No. 11264/52. Class 79(3). [Also in Group XXVII] For a tractor or other self propelling farm implement having an instrument panel provided with an opening extending therethrough, air intake means comprises in combination, an air filter adapted to be mounted in the opening, an air cleaner unit adapted to be positioned forwardly of the instrument panel, a conduit extending between the air filter and air cleaner unit for conveying air sucked through the former into the latter and means adapted to be disposed over the air filter partially to enclose the latter without obscuring the driver's view of the same. As shown an air cleaner 10 is mounted in front of the instrument panel 17 of a tractor. The air is drawn from the rear of the panel and passes to the cleaner through a flexible pipe 27. A further flexible pipe 15 leads from the cleaner to the intake side of the engine carburettor (not shown). A wire mesh screen 30 prevents ingress of large particles to the pipe 27. A removable hooded member 31 clamps the screen in position. The usual panel instruments including a clock 19 ignition switch assembly 20 ammeter 21 temperature indicator 22, oil press gauge 23 and light switch 24 appear on the panel. The panel is supported from the steering column 25. The air intake means can be readily applied to existing tractors with but slight modification of the original tractor equipment.
