Abstract

767,356. Door-operating appliances. INTERNATIONAL MACGREGOR ORGANIZATION I.M.G.O. Nov. 1, 1954 [July 21, 1954], No. 31546/54. Class 65 (1). [Also in Group XXXII] Openings on vehicles, e.g. railway vehicles, or in sheds or other installations are closed by a series of tilting or rolling panels hingedly interconnected through links or levers actuated by traction ropes or chains, each link for connecting a pair of adjacent panels being pivoted at the rear and front portions thereof and guided during the opening and closing operations by a ramp or rectilinear or curved portion of the panel guideway provided along the edges of the space to be covered. As shown in Fig. 1, a railway truck is provided with two sets of four panels, one set being shown in the closed horizontal position and the other set consisting of panels 1, 1<SP>1</SP>, 1<SP>11</SP> and 1<SP>111</SP>, being shown in the stowed vertical position. The panels may be provided each with two pairs of running rollers and a pair of top rollers 4, but as shown, only the panel 1 has two pairs of running rollers 2, 3, the remaining panels having only one pair of running rollers 3. The panels are interconnected by links 5 and the panel 1 is connected at 14 and 15, Fig. 7, to a rope 8 which is wound over pulleys and attached to drums 9, 12 fitted with handles 16, 17. By turning the handles in one or other direction, the panels may be drawn into a horizontal position covering half of the track or withdrawn to the vertical stowed position. Ramps 18, Fig. 1, are provided to cause the panels to move from a vertical to a horizontal position about the tipping rollers 4. In a modification, the leading panel is always in a horizontal position. The panels may be locked in their closed positions by means of a. hand lever 23 which may be turned to rotate a rod and cause catches thereon to engage in holes in the outermost panel. The panels may also be locked by means shown in Fig. 13. When the panels are in the locked position as shown, the rollers 3 are engaged in apertures 42 formed in the runways 19 and a stop member 46 is engaged by a hook-shaped portion of a bell-crank lever 48 connected to a control rod 50, which is also connected to a link 45 provided with a pin 45<SP>1</SP>. When the control rod is moved to the right, the bell-crank lever is disengaged from the stop 46 and the pin 45<SP>1</SP> on the link 45 is actuated to raise a lever 43 pivoted at 44, whereby the rollers 3 are disengaged from the apertures 42. The joints between two adjacent panels, e.g. panels 1, 1<SP>1</SP>, may be sealed when in the closed position by the engagement of a projecting portion 36 of panel 1 with a yielding mass 37 located in a channel 38 in panel 1<SP>1</SP>. Specification 762,054, [Group XXXII], is referred to.
