Abstract

767,155. Air supply for combustion; dampers. BELL & CO., Ltd., A., and BELL, N.. M. Aug. 30, 1955 [Sept. 1, 1954], No. 25340/54. Class 126 - The front member of a fireplace has a damper-controlled opening communicating with an air chamber receiving a supply of air from outside the room and having a damper-controlled upper outlet, and the dampers are actuated by a single control so that air is supplied either through the front member below the grate, through the upper outlet over the fuel bed, or both. The front wall 20 of a fireplace has an opening surrounded by rearwardly projecting flanges 22 and controlled by a damper 35 supported by lugs 37 on the front wall. The damper 35. is actuated by a cam 33 on a rod 30 passing through the flanges 22 and a boss 28 formed at the centre of the upper part 23 of the front wall. The cam 33 also engages a crank 38, pivoted on the front wall, which raises a damper 40 controlling the upper open end of an air chamber 41. The head 31 of the rod 30 is shaped to engage a suitable tool, the cam 33 has a number of grooves to engage the enlarged foot of the crank 38 to provide settings for the control, and the damper 40, in its closed postion, rests on the top of the air chamber.
