Abstract
738,691. Firegrates. PICKARD, H., and PICKARD, I. May 4, 1954 [May 12, 1953], No. 13252/53. Class 126. Air is supplied to the underside of the fuel grid of a barless open firegrate having an air chamber below the ash space through a short upwardly extending air duct at each side of a plate forming the upper side of the air chamber and the base of the ash space and directing the air flow horizontally across the ash space, and the air supply is manually controllable. Air is admitted to a chamber e, Fig. 2, formed beneath a plate a supported on flanges b on the floor of the fireplace through an aperture in the fireplace floor. At either side the plate a carries a duct g communicating with the chamber e and directing air horizontally across an ash pan i supported on the plate a. A central partition j deflects the air streams to the grid k. The rate of air flow through the ducts g is controlled by flaps o pivoted to the plate a beneath the ducts and operated by links p and a central push-pull rod q projecting from the fireplace front.
