763,014. Liquid, gaseous and pulverulentfuel furnaces. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. May 21, 1954 [May 23, 1953], No. 15060/54. Class 51 (1). In the combustion of liquid, gaseous or powdered fuel in a chamber operating with resonant vibration of the fuel and air therein pulsations are produced in the fuel and/or air streams prior to their entry into the chamber, the pulsations being of such frequency as to produce the resonance. The frequencies of the pulsations in the fuel and air streams may differ. As shown, powdered fuel is fed from a bunker 3 into a current of air forced through a pipe 2 by a fan 1, the pipe terminating in a tube 7 having a cooling jacket 6 and delivering into a duct 8 having cooling coils 9 and including a combustion chamber 13. Additional air for combustion is supplied by a fan 10 through a pipe 11 having a rotary damper 12 which produces pulsations in the air stream. The duct 8 has a piston 14 adjustable axially to produce resonance in the duct. The duct 8 may discharge tangentially into a cyclone furnace chamber associated with a steam generator.
