761,705. Supply systems for space discharge devices; transformer arrangements. DAVIDSEN, G. B. June 28, 1954 [March 26, 1954], No. 18878/54. Class 38 (4). In an electric supply circuit for an X-ray tube 1 having an incandescent cathode 2, and comprising two H.T. transformers 4, 5 whose secondary windings are serially connected with each other to provide an H.T. voltage supply for the tube 1 across which they are connected and one secondary winding having a winding portion 6 for supplying filament voltage to the cathode 2, and whose primary windings are also serially connected with each other the common point 7 and the two outer terminals 9, 10 of such windings being connected to tappings on a regulating transformer 8, at least two of the tappings are adjustable with respect to the regulating transformer winding in such a way that the voltages of the two primary windings may be adjusted from mutual aiding to mutual opposition. As shown, one outer terminal 9 is connected to a point 15 on the regulating transformer winding, and the point 7 and other outer terminal 10 are connected to independently movable regulating transformer winding tappings 13,14 which are each constituted by a sliding contact movable over either a stripped part of the winding or a contact piece connected to the winding turns and are disposed in different radial planes from each other so that they may be moved past each other. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the tapping 13 is fixed, and the tappings 14, 15 are movable and are disposed in the same radial plane as each other to minimize the height of the regulating transformer.
