Abstract

759,925. Comubustion chambers. BOTTGER, J. Nov. 2, 1953 [Oct. 31, 1952], No. 30224/53. Class 7(3) A combustion chamber 1 arranged in the cylinder head or piston of a fuel-injection engine comprises a sphericallyshaped portion 3 which merges into a conically shaped portion 4 from which extends a cylindrical outlet passage 6 having its axis 13 parallel to the common axis 7 of the spherical and conical portions 3, 4, of the chamber, the distance of the point 8 of the passage 6 nearest to the cylinder axis 9 from the common axis 7 being substantially smaller than the distance between the common axis 7 and the point of the passage 6 diametrically opposite to the point 8. Due to the offset arrangement of the passage 6, the point 8 reaches a higher temperature than the other parts of the combustion chamber and initiates ignition. The open angle of the conical portion 4 exceeds 90 degrees.
