Abstract

759,211. Door-operating appliances. DEE VEE, Ltd. April 27, 1954 [April 29. 1953 ; Feb. 9, 1954],No. 12117/54. Class 65 (1). A door-closing spring is housed in a pair of members resembling those of an ordinary hinge and attached in a similar manner to the door and frame, but taking no load. In the form shown the members comprise fixing- plates 10 with tubular portions 11 housing the spring 27, the tubular portions being aligned by a sleeve 28. The spring has a cap 18 screwed into each end, the upper cap having a hexagonal recess to receive a tool for stressing the spring and being secured to the upper tubular part 11 by a pin 23, while the lower cap has a cross-pin engaging ratchet teeth on the lower edge of the lower tubular part or vice versa. In a modification, each cap has a pair of crossed radial holes for a securing pin and another pair for a spring-stressing bar. The door may be held in the open position by a latch nose carried by a leaf-spring fixed on the door or frame to engage a hole or holes in the tubular part 11 carried by the other of these members; alternatively the meeting edges of the tubular parts 11 may be formed with protuberances which ride over one another to prevent the return of the door under the action of the spring.
