Abstract

757,896. Bogie mountings. METALASTIK, Ltd. Jan. 15, 1954 [Jan. 31, 1953], No. 2840/53. Class 103 (6). In a suspension system for resiliently supporting railway and like vehicles or bogies in which the weight of the vehicle is carried by side linkages and in which a central positioning device resists traction and braking forces and restrains longitudinal movement between the bogie and underframe, the linkages are so constructed that within normal limits of displacement of the links about horizontal transverse axes, the vehicle body is capable of movement only in a horizontal plane relative to the bogie, and the traction and braking loads are carried by a central longitudinal strut extending between the bogie and the body. In the arrangement shown, the bogie frame 11 has on each side member bearers 14, 15, the bearer 14 supporting an upwardlyextending link 16 and the bearer 15 supporting a downwardly-extending link 17. The links carry a pivotally-mounted beam 18 built up from side plates and transverse members. Rubber springs 19 are arranged between the side plates, the outer ends of the springs being supported on inclined transverse members 20 of the beam, and the inner ends engaging a wedge-shaped member 21 secured to the vehicle underframe. The springs preferably have interleaves and tie bars may be provided which join interleaves or intermediate plates on opposite sides of the apex formed by the springs, as disclosed in Specification 648,516. The pivotal connections at the ends of the links 16, 17 may be of rubber, as shown in Specification 714,074. Movement of the bogie relatively to the vehicle along the axis of travel is restrained by the provision of a strut 27 connected by spherical rubber bearings 28 to a bogie transom at one end and to the vehicle underframe at the other end. The bogie is supported from the axis 29 by chevron-shaped rubber sandwiches 30 as disclosed in Specification 720,365. In a modification the links 16, 17 are connected to the body and the beam 18 to the bogie.
