Abstract

1521096 Railway vehicle undercarriages DEMAG AG 10 Sept 1975 [14 Sept 1974] 37264/75 Heading B7L A basic framework structure 2, H-shaped in plan, for fabricating railway vehicle bogies comprises a pair of spaced apart side frames 3 each of which has two longitudinally spaced apertures 6 mounting axle bearings 7 of axles 9 extending between the side frames and carrying wheels 10, the frame 3 being interconnected by welding to an I-section cross-beam 5, 5a, centrally between the axles 9, the beam having its centre of gravity disposed in a plane containing the axes of the axles 9 in their mean positions and the beam also having its vertical web 5 surmounted by a horizontal flange 5a. The ends 5c of the web 5 are extended so as to project laterally beyond and above the flange 5a and penetrate vertical slots in the frames 3, wherein they are welded. By welding a box-shaped frame 11 on the upper surface 5b of the flange 5a and mounting a spherical bearing part 12a on the support surface 11b of the frame 11, the structure forms a two-axled bogie with the bearing part 12a engageable with a spherical bearing 12 on a vehicle body underframe 13. In this instance the axle bearings 7 are supported by leafsprings 8 mounted in shackles on the side frames 3 but they may be supported by helical springs as described with reference to Fig. 3 (not shown). The box frame 11 mounts rollers 14 on horizontal axes for engaging the undersurface of the underframe 13. Two such bogie structures may be used to form of four-axled bogie Fig. 5. In this case bearings 19 mounted directly on the cross-beams 5 engage bearings on the ends of a connecting girder 15. The latter carries a central bearing 12 for connecting with a vehicle body underframe 13. A three-axled bogie may be fabricated by combining the basic structure of Fig. 1 with a second structure for a single axle, the second structure being pivotally connected the cross-beam 5, 5a of the basic structure by a a girder extending between the side frames of the basic structure as described with reference to Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown). Multiple axle bogies having more than four axles may be made-up by utilizing basic and secondary structures as described with reference to Fig. 9 (not shown).
