Abstract
755,145. Travelling-wave tubes; magnetrons. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. May 19, 1954 [May 19, 1953], No. 14755/54. Class 39 (1). A backward-wave oscillator of the magnetron type has two auxiliary electrodes P, W in line with the delay line L and the negative electrode S, and the cathode K is mounted in a recess in the electrode W. Electrode W is mounted on a member G insulated within a recess of the electrode S. The cathode terminals F are insulatingly mounted on the member G. The front lip U, Fig. 3, of the cathode recess is sloped to provide a uniform field. The edges of electrodes W, P, E and S may be rounded. The electrons perform 1<SP> </SP>1/2 cycloids before entering the interaction space. The electrode P is maintained at a potential halfway between the potentials of electrodes L and S. Modulating potentials are applied to electrode W.
