Abstract
In a method of chemically polishing and brightening Ta and Ta-base alloys the metal is immersed in a mixture consisting of, by volume, 1-2 parts HNO3, 4-5 parts H2SO4 and 1-2 parts HF. Particularly useful is a mixture consisting of, by volume, 15-40 per cent, preferably 25 per cent, HNO3, 40-80 per cent, preferably 60 per cent, H2SO4, 10-35 per cent, preferably 15 per cent, HF and preferably no water although it may be added in an amount up to 20 per cent. The strengths of the acids used are respectively, by weight, 70 per cent, 95,5 per cent and 48 per cent and the solutions are best used in the temperature range of room temperature to 90 DEG C.
