Abstract

Apparatus for dyeing or otherwise treating with liquid (shown in plans views in Fig. 2 and substantially in Fig. 3), comprices a hermetically sealed dyeing vat 1 and a hermetically sealed storage or expansion vat 2 togther with a centrifugal <PICT:0753676/IV(c)/1> <PICT:0753676/IV(c)/2> pump 3 having its input connected through a valve 8 to the storage vat 2 and its output connected through a conduit 9 to a distriber 5 (not visible in Fig. 2), there being also provided conduits leading from the distributer to the vat 1, to the vat 2 through the valve 12 and to the input of the pump 3 through the valve 15. A further direct connection 18 provided with a valve 19 is made between the upper parts of the two vats for permitting the equilization of the pressures therein. As indicated in Fig. 3 the distributer 5 comprises an internal tube 23, which is rotatable about the axis of the conduit 9, so permitting connection to be made between the conduit 9 and any one of the conduits 22, 221 and 10 the position of the tube 23 being controlled by the hand wheel 17, Fig. 2. With the apparatus arranged as indicated in Fig. 3 the treatment liquid is circulated continuously between the vats 1 and 2. The direction in which the liquid passes through the vat 2 may be reversed by rotating tube 23 to bring it into communication with conduit 22. By changing over each of the valves 8, 12 and 15 liquid may be circulated through the vat 1 without passing through the vat 2, while by rotating the tube 23 to put it into communication with the conduit 10 and by suitably engaging the valves 8, 12 and 15, the liquid in the vat 1 may be wholly transferred to the vat 2.
