752,421. Latches. FROMHOLT, E. G., and ANDERSSON, L. Aug. 12, 1954 [Aug. 13, 1953], No. 23476/54. Class 44. A latch comprises an arcuate spring 2 one end of which is secured to an escutcheon plate 1 adapted to be attached to a cupboard door or the like and the other end of which carries a latch bolt 4 and projects through an opening 3 in the escutcheon plate, the opening permitting compression of the spring so that the latch bolt can, when the latch is fitted to a cupboard or the like, be disengaged from a strike plate 5, and an arcuate finger holder 7 rigidly attached to the escutcheon plate inside the spring, the escutcheon plate or the spring carrying means for preventing longitudinal displacement of the spring in the opening 3 when the spring is compressed. The finger holder can be a curved metal strip, as shown, or it can be a tube which encloses the spring. In the former case the means for preventing displacement of the spring is, as shown, a pin 6 attached to the escutcheon plate and in the latter case it is a push-button which extends through an opening in the finger holder and which also serves to actuate the spring. The finger holder and spring are attached to the escutcheon plate by tongue and slot means.
