Abstract

A pulverulent mixture of magnetic material and a binding agent is sprinkled into a mould whilst under the influence of a magnetic field directed so as to correspond to the direction of flux in the finished magnet and is there compressed, at right angles to said direction, to form a coherent body. The mould may be filled in layers, each layer being compressed before further filling. The moulded body may be a "tablet", several of which are stacked with their magnetic directions in alignment, heated and finally pressed. The magnetic material may be Al-Ni or Al-Ni-Co alloys, and magnetic oxides as of iron, barium or manganese and the particle size less than 0.1m . Metallic oxides may be subjected to heat treatment in a magnetic field before, or during, mixing with the binding agent, which may be of synthetic resin.
